Introduction :

In observance of World Sparrow Day (March 20, 2026), Takshashila University, through its School of Management Studies, organized a purposeful environmental initiative titled “100 Sparrows Mission.” This initiative reflects the institution’s strong commitment to sustainability, ecological awareness, and meaningful community engagement.

As part of the programme, a nest box distribution drive was carried out across households in Muppili Village, aimed at providing safe nesting spaces for sparrows. Designed to address the alarming decline in sparrow populations, the initiative emphasized the importance of biodiversity conservation.

Objective of the Event :

The primary objective of the 100 Sparrows Mission was to promote environmental consciousness and inspire proactive efforts toward sparrow conservation. The event aimed to:

  • Create awareness about the ecological importance of sparrows
  • Highlight the factors contributing to their declining population
  • Encourage eco-friendly habits and sustainable lifestyles
  • Motivate students to actively participate in conservation initiatives

 Highlights of the Event :

The program featured a range of informative and engaging activities that reinforced the importance of protecting sparrows and their habitats:

  • Awareness sessions on biodiversity and bird conservation
  • Educational discussions on the impact of urbanization on sparrows
  • Demonstrations on creating bird-friendly environments
  • Promotion of simple conservation practices such as installing bird feeders and water bowls

These activities provided valuable insights and encouraged participants to take practical steps toward environmental protection.

Student Participation & Community Engagement :

The event witnessed active participation from 50 students of BBA and MBA programmes, who played a vital role in executing the initiative. A rally was organized to spread awareness about sparrow conservation and the importance of protecting biodiversity.

Through direct interaction with local residents, students:

  • Educated households about the importance of sparrows in the ecosystem
  • Distributed nest boxes to encourage bird-friendly environments
  • Promoted simple, sustainable practices to support bird conservation

Impact of the Program :

The initiative created a meaningful impact by:

  • Raising awareness among the local community about sparrow conservation
  • Encouraging households to actively participate in protecting bird habitats
