Course Curriculum
First Year: Building the Basics
Students start with fundamental subjects like Tamil Literature Basics, Tamil Grammar, and Modern Tamil Prose & Poetry, which introduce them to key literary works and language rules. The curriculum also includes History of Tamil Nadu & Culture, providing insights into Tamil heritage and language evolution. Additionally, an English language paper enhances communication skills.
Second Year: Expanding Knowledge & Applications
This year covers Medieval Tamil Literature (such as Bhakti period works like Thevaram), Advanced Tamil Grammar, and Journalism & Creative Writing in Tamil, helping students develop writing skills for media. Environmental Studies is also part of the syllabus, along with another language or communication paper. This phase focuses on practical applications, teaching students how to write stories, articles, and news pieces in Tamil.
Third Year: Deep Dive into Tamil Studies
The final year introduces advanced topics like Sangam Literature, Literary Criticism & Theory, and Tamil Folklore & Culture, helping students analyze texts and explore Tamil traditions. Many programs also require a Project or Dissertation, allowing students to research and write on a chosen topic under faculty guidance.

- Work in media houses, government offices, or corporate settings translating Tamil to other languages and vice versa. Entry-level salaries range from ₹25,000 – ₹40,000 per month, with scope for higher earnings in specialized fields.
Content Writer / Editor (Tamil Media)
- Write and edit content for Tamil newspapers, magazines, news portals, or publishing houses. Starting salary: ₹20,000 – ₹40,000 per month, increasing with experience in reputed media outlets.
Customer Support Executive (Tamil Language)
- Many companies need Tamil-speaking executives for customer support. Salaries start at ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 per month, with growth opportunities in team leadership.
Media Presenter (TV/Radio Anchor)

To apply, you must have passed 12th grade (any stream) from a recognized board. While it’s helpful to have studied Tamil in school, it’s not compulsory—basic reading and writing skills are enough to get started. The course begins with fundamentals and helps you improve as you go.
No entrance exam is required. Admission is generally based on your 12th marks and an optional interview. If you have awards in Tamil-related activities, they’re a plus. Students from other states or countries with a basic interest in Tamil are also welcome.
