Introduction :

The Light Lamping Ceremony is a significant milestone in the journey of nursing students, symbolizing their commitment to the noble profession of healthcare. The School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, organized the Lamp Lighting Ceremony for the second batch of nursing students on January 22, 2026, at the Lecture Hall of Takshashila University.

The ceremony marked the formal initiation of students into the nursing profession, inspiring them to serve humanity with dedication, compassion, and integrity.

Commencement of the Ceremony :

The program commenced with an invocation seeking divine blessings, setting a solemn and dignified tone for the ceremony.

The gathering was formally welcomed by Prof. S. Kasthuri, Principal, who extended a warm greeting to the esteemed dignitaries, faculty members, parents, and students in attendance. This was followed by the lighting of the traditional ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and other distinguished dignitaries, symbolizing the light of knowledge, wisdom, and the noble spirit of the nursing profession.

Honouring the Chief Guests :

Inspirational Address by the Chief Guest  :

The Chief Guest, Dr. Lucy Nirmal Medona, Dean, Villupuram Government Medical College, Villupuram, delivered an inspiring address highlighting the importance of ethical practice, empathy, dedication, and professional responsibility in the nursing profession. She emphasized that nursing is not merely a profession but a noble service dedicated to the well-being of individuals and communities.

She encouraged the students to remain committed to compassionate patient care, uphold the core values of the profession, and continuously strive for excellence in their clinical practice. Her motivating words inspired the budding nurses to carry forward the legacy of service, compassion, and professionalism in their future careers.

Ceremonial Lamp Lighting :

The most symbolic moment of the ceremony was the Lamp Lighting Ritual, led by the Chief Guest along with the dignitaries.

The ceremony was conducted in the presence of:

  • Dr. Subramaniam – Dean, Academic Affairs
  • Dr. Seetharaman – Dean, Ranking & Accreditation
  • Dr. Jayashree – Dean, Faculty of Medical Science
  • Dr. Deepa – Dean, Faculty of Science
  • Dr. Suphalakshmi – Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology

This ritual represents the light of knowledge, compassion, and service, guiding students in their professional journey.
