Healthy Awareness Program

Healthy Awareness Program As part of the Pharmacy Week Celebration, the School of Pharmacy, Takshashila University organized a Health Awareness Program for the public on 13th December 2025 at
Tindivanam Town, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The program, now including B.Sc. Nursing, focuses on promoting healthy dietary habits through awareness and live demonstrations of millet-based recipes. Conducted under the theme “Good Food, Good Health,” it highlights the role of millets in preventing lifestyle-related diseases and encourages the community to adopt nutritious, affordable, and locally available food choices. This initiative aligns well with nursing students’ roles in health promotion and disease prevention.

PROMOTING HEALTHY LIVING THROUGH MILLETES :

In recent years, unhealthy dietary habits and increased consumption of refined foods have
contributed significantly to lifestyle-related disorders such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular
diseases, and nutritional deficiencies. Recognizing the need to address this growing concern, the
School of Pharmacy designed this program to promote healthy, affordable, and locally
available food choices, with special emphasis on millets.
Millets are traditional grains rich in dietary fibre, essential minerals, vitamins, and bioactive
compounds. Despite their nutritional superiority, their usage has gradually declined. This
initiative aimed to revive awareness about millets and encourage their inclusion in daily diets.

STUDENT PARTICIPATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT :


The program was conducted under the theme “Good Food, Good Health”, highlighting the role
of nutritious food in preventing lifestyle diseases and promoting overall well-being.
Undergraduate pharmacy students of the R-23 batch actively participated in the outreach

program. The students played a vital role in:

>>Educating the public about the health benefits of millets
>>Distributing informative pamphlets
>>Demonstrating 20 varieties of easy-to-prepare millet-based recipes
>> Engaging the community through interactive discussions

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:


The program achieved meaningful outcomes, including :
>> Enhanced public awareness regarding the health benefits of millets
>> Encouraging the adoption of healthy food habits
>> Improved understanding of affordable and nutritious dietary alternatives
>> Positive community response toward adopting millet-based food habits
>> Development of communication skills, social responsibility, and professional ethics
among pharmacy students
Participant feedback reflected high levels of satisfaction, with many expressing interest in
incorporating millet-based recipes into their regular diets.

CONCLUSION:


The Health Awareness Program organized by the School of Pharmacy, Takshashila
University, was a successful community-oriented initiative that effectively integrated academic
knowledge with social responsibility. By promoting millet-based nutrition, the program
contributed to preventive healthcare awareness and encouraged sustainable, healthy dietary
