Menstrual Hygiene Program

INTRODUCTION

The School of Physiotherapy, Takshashila University, organized a Menstrual Hygiene Program on 09 February 2026 at St. Joseph Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Porur Village. The program aimed to create awareness among adolescent girls about menstrual health and the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices.

The session covered essential topics such as understanding the menstrual cycle, safe use and disposal of sanitary products, managing menstrual discomfort, and addressing common myths related to menstruation. Through interactive discussions, students were encouraged to ask questions and gain accurate information in a supportive environment.

PROMOTING HEALTH , CONFIDENCE AND DIGNITY :

With the theme “A Healthy Girl is a Confident Girl,” the program focused on educating adolescent girls about:

>>Understanding the menstrual cycle
>>Importance of personal hygiene during menstruation
>>Safe usage and disposal of sanitary products
>>Managing menstrual pain and discomfort
>>Addressing myths and misconceptions about periods

Faculty members and students from the School of Physiotherapy actively engaged with the participants through interactive sessions, demonstrations, and open discussions. The session created a safe and supportive environment where students felt comfortable asking questions and clarifying doubts.

EMPOWERING YOUNG GIRLS THROUGH EDUCATION :

Menstrual health education plays a vital role in ensuring physical well-being, emotional confidence, and academic continuity among young girls. Lack of awareness often leads to poor hygiene practices, infections, absenteeism from school, and social stigma. This awareness program emphasized that menstruation is a natural biological process and should be treated with dignity and openness. By fostering knowledge and confidence, the initiative aimed to empower girls to manage their health responsibly.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY :

The event reflects Takshashila University’s continuous commitment to community engagement and

women’s health advocacy. Such outreach programs not only benefit school students but also enhance the social responsibility, communication skills, and public health awareness of university students.

Through collaborative efforts, the School of Physiotherapy continues to contribute towards building a healthier and more informed society.
