School of Pharmacy Road Safety Awarness Program

INTRODUCTION :

As part of Road Safety Month, the School of Pharmacy, Takshashila University organized a Road Safety Awarness Program on 24 January 2026 at Rock Beach, Puducherry. The initiative aimed to promote awareness on road safety and the prevention of road traffic accidents.

B. Pharm III-year students actively engaged with commuters and pedestrians by educating them on key safety measures such as helmet and seat belt usage, adherence to speed limits, and avoiding mobile phone use while driving. Conducted under the theme “Road Safety – Life Safety,” the programme effectively sensitized the public and reinforced the university’s commitment to community outreach and public health promotion.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM :

To create awareness about road safety rules among the general public To educate citizens on the importance of helmet and seat belt usage

To explain the major causes of road accidents and their preventive measures To promote disciplined and responsible road behavior

To inculcate social responsibility among pharmacy students

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & PARTICIPATION :

B. Pharm III-year students actively participated by educating the public on:

>>Mandatory helmet usage for two-wheeler riders
>>Importance of seat belts for drivers and passengers
>>Adhering to speed limits and traffic signals
>>Avoiding mobile phone usage while driving

Their direct engagement helped convey safety messages effectively in a relatable and impactful manner.

PUBLIC FEEDBACK AND PARTICIPATION :

The programme received a positive and encouraging response from the community, highlighting the impact of the Road Safety Awareness Programme conducted at Rock Beach, Puducherry. Commuters and pedestrians actively engaged with the students, listened attentively to the road safety awareness messages, and appreciated the efforts taken by the School of Pharmacy, Takshashila University. Many members of the public interacted with the students, sought clarification on traffic rules, and acknowledged the importance of following road safety regulations. Several participants expressed their willingness to adopt safe driving practices, including helmet and seat belt usage, adherence to speed limits, and avoidance of mobile phone use while driving, contributing to improved road safety and accident prevention.

CONCLUSION :

The Road Safety Awareness Programme was successfully conducted with active and enthusiastic participation from B. Pharm III-year students. The initiative effectively enhanced public awareness of road safety while simultaneously strengthening students’ communication skills, sense of social responsibility, and understanding of preventive public health practices. Such community outreach programmes reaffirm Takshashila University’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible and ethically driven healthcare professionals.
