Introduction:

Takshashila University welcomed the first-year MBBS students of the 2026-2027 batch into the world of medicine with a White Coat Ceremony for New MBBS Students, hosted by Takshashila Medical College on 30 October 2026. The occasion marked their formal entry into medical education and the first step towards becoming responsible and compassionate doctors.

A Meaningful Beginning to the Medical Profession:

The White Coat Ceremony holds special significance in the journey of every medical student. The white coat represents more than professional attire; it signifies trust, responsibility, integrity and a commitment to patient care.

The ceremony reminded the newly admitted students that academic knowledge must go hand in hand with compassion, discipline and ethical conduct. Becoming a medical professional also means developing empathy, patience and respect for human life.

Special Address:

The special address was delivered by Honourable Pro-Chancellor, Dr. D. Nila Priyadharshini. She encouraged the students to pursue their studies with discipline, empathy and a clear sense of purpose. Her words highlighted the responsibilities that come with entering the healthcare profession and set an inspiring tone for the rest of the programme.

White Coat and Stethoscope Presentation Ceremony:

The ceremony’s central moment was the presentation of white coats to the students, followed by the distribution of stethoscopes. The stethoscopes were presented by the Honourable Pro-Chancellor, Dr. D. Nila Priyadharshini, along with the faculty members, making the occasion a meaningful moment of encouragement and recognition. Representing careful listening, observation and clinical judgement, the stethoscope serves as an essential symbol of a physician’s commitment to patient care. For the students and their families, receiving these symbols of the profession was a memorable and emotional experience.

A Pledge to Uphold Medical Ethics:

The programme also featured the administration of the Maharishi Charak Shapath, during which the students pledged to uphold the ethical principles and responsibilities of the medical profession. The oath emphasised the importance of compassion, integrity, professional conduct and an unwavering commitment to serving humanity. It reinforced the values that will guide the students throughout their medical careers, reminding them of their responsibility towards patients and society.

Conclusion:

The White Coat Ceremony marked a meaningful beginning of the medical journey for first-year MBBS students at Takshashila Medical College. As students begin their academic journey, the ceremony serves as a lasting reminder of their commitment to advancing healthcare and serving society with knowledge, dedication, and humanity.
