About the School

Takshashila University has launched the School of Agricultural Sciences which offers programme in B.Sc., (Hons.) Agriculture from the academic year 2023-24. Recognizing the importance of agriculture in the country and also to provide world class education to the rural people at Ongur, Tindivanam.

The Agricultural Sciences programme are designed to develop skills and explore career areas in agriculture and allied fields. The instructional program includes topics in animal, plant, environmental, soil, food sciences, horticulture, landscaping and agricultural engineering. Students will acquire skills necessary to meet their individual career objectives, occupational skills for gainful employment and leadership abilities to work effectively in groups and as a team. Additionally, the programs provide for research and supervised work experience to enhance the needs and interests of each student

Programmes Offered

The bachelor’s degree programs offering are focused on agriculture and its associated fields. These courses of study provide students with both theoretical and practical expertise in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, sericulture, biotechnology, agribusiness management, energy and environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, and food technology, which they can use to further pursue education in master’s programs and transform oneself into young entrepreneurs.

UG - Programmes

4 Years

The course load includes basic and fundamental courses in agriculture and allied sciences. Students will gain extensive experience in farming, laboratory analysis, industry internships, and experiential learning courses, allowing them to earn money while studying. Teaching methods include lectures, farm work, analysis in the laboratory, and presentations.

PG - Programmes

2 Years

The programme aims to impart advanced knowledge in agronomy for efficient and sustainable crop production under diverse conditions. It develops skills in soil, water, nutrient, and weed management along with research and analytical abilities. It also prepares students for careers in research, teaching, extension, and agribusiness sectors.

2 Years

The programme provides advanced knowledge of soil characteristics, nutrient dynamics, and soil–plant relationships for sustainable agriculture. It equips students with skills in soil fertility management, laboratory analysis, and efficient use of fertilizers and amendments.

2 Years

The programme focuses on advanced knowledge of plant diseases, their causes, and interactions with host plants and the environment. It develops skills in disease diagnosis, pathogen identification, and integrated disease management strategies. It prepares graduates for careers in research, teaching, plant protection services, and agro-based industries.

2 Years

The programme focuses on advanced knowledge of insect biology, pest dynamics, and their impact on crop production. It develops skills in pest identification, monitoring, and integrated pest management strategies. It prepares graduates for careers in research, teaching, plant protection services, and agrochemical industries.

2 Years

The programme focuses on advanced concepts of agricultural economics, including production, marketing, finance, and policy analysis. It develops skills in economic analysis, data interpretation, and decision-making for agricultural and rural development. It prepares graduates for careers in banking, agribusiness, policy planning, and development sectors.
