B.Sc (Bachelor of Science in Physics)

B.Sc. in Physics is a three-year undergraduate program comprising theory and experimental courses mainly in Physics and a few interdisciplinary courses in Mathematics, Chemistry and Computer Science.

Syllabus

The syllabus of B.Sc Physics consists of Mechanics, Environmental Studies, Organic Chemistry, Solid State Physics, Classical Mechanics and Relativity, Basic Electronics, Nuclear Physics, Biophysics and Radiation Science, Renewable Energy, Digital Electronics, Atomic and Molecular Physics.

Program Outcomes

Knowledge Outcome: To apply the basic principles of physics to the events occurring around us and also in the world.

Skill Outcomes: To apply the knowledge to develop a sustainable and eco-friendly technology for a pollution-free environment.

Program-Specific Outcomes: Students get conceptual knowledge of entrepreneurship through co-curricular activities.

Mechanics and Properties of Matter: Application of Newton’s laws of motion to solve various problems related to day-to-day life.

Physics Principles and Applications: Students learn about an atom made up of Protons, Neutrons, and Electrons, and how they are arranged to make up an atom. They learn different Atomic models, Atomic Spectrums, and types of spectrums.

Heat and thermodynamics: To understand the principle of thermometry and various types of thermometers like liquid-filled thermometers, Gas-filled thermometers, Bimetallic thermometers, and Platinum resistance thermometers.

Electricity and magnetism: Students will be able to understand the concept of the electric force, electric field, and electric potential for stationary charges. They can calculate electric potential and electric field by using the gauss law.

Mathematical methods in physics: Students can also understand the need for complex numbers in solving mathematical equations in different branches of physics like electricity and magnetism, Fluid dynamics, and Quantum mechanics.

Instrumentation: History and instrumentation, components of the measurement system, standards of measurement, measurement errors. Importance and methods of calibration. Static and dynamic characteristics of measurements.

Optics: Image formation related to geometrical optics, Deviation, Magnification, the concept for an Equivalent lens, and Cardinal points.
